Theo Aalders is a Humboldt Foundation (Feodor Lynen) Postdoctoral Fellow with the STS Program. His research focuses on unbuilt and unfinished infrastructure projects, labor organizing, infrastructure sabotage, as well as infrastructural ghosts and other horrors.
He uses collaborative qualitative art methodologies such as comics and landscape paintings. His current project combines all of these interests in a study of competing visions of construction and destruction around the Garzweiler lignite coal mine in Germany. The main methodological entry point is the participatory creation of short comic stories in collaboration with a comic artist. Furthermore, Theo is co-editing several special issues about Infrastructure and labor in Africa (Territory, Politics, Governance); infrastructure sabotage (Human Geography); and so-called “ghost projects” (Third World Quarterly). |
